Sisonke Msimang is a South African writer whose work is focussed on gender, race and democracy. Sisonke is the author of two books – Always Another Country: A memoir of exile and home; and The Resurrection of Winnie Mandela. She is the head of the oral storytelling programme at Perth’s Centre for Stories, and curates the Perth Festival’s Literature and Ideas programme.
Sisonke has held fellowships at Yale University, the Aspen Institute and the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg and has written for the New York Times, the Guardian, Newsweek, Bloomberg, Al Jazeera and many other publications. Sisonke’s TED talk, If a story moves you, act on it, has been viewed more than 1.4 million times.
She has a masters degree in political science from the University of Cape Town and a bachelor of arts in politics and communication studies from Macalester College in the US. She currently lives in Perth.
